I am professor Shin Hyeon-cheol, the head of Department of Electronics Convergence Engineering.
The Department of Electronics Convergence Engineering is the representative department leading the electronic engineering-based IT-Convergence Engineering field in the College of Electronics and Information Engineering of Kwangwoon University.
The matrix of our department was the Department of Radio Wave Engineering, which was established in 1992, and the curriculum consisted of the elements, circuits and communication systems of the RF/microwave-based mobile and satellite communication fields. Entering the second millenium, the IT technology began to develop rapidly. Keeping with the times, our department was expanded and reorganized into the Department of Electronics Convergence Engineering in 2010, so that the department may effectively cope with the needs of the times caused by the convergence between the IT technology and other industrial technologies, as well as the convergence among different technologies within the IT technology. It was possible to promote the academic development, raise the educational satisfaction of the enrolled students, and expand the opportunities for the graduates to choose their career, through the reorganization.
The electronics convergence education of our department is based on electronic engineering. After completion of substantial education of electronic engineering, the in-depth education of IT- converged engineering technology, which is converged with electronic information communication technology, is carried out on the basis of the electronic engineering. Based on the education, our department has been training leading professional who have professional research skills, practical ability, scientific thinking skills and application ability concerning diverse IT-converged fields that are based on the electronic information communication,
Currently, our department consists of 12 professors, about 400 undergraduate students, and some 60 graduates students in master & doctoral course. Most of our graduates are playing a pivot role in their own field, after getting a job in important institutions such as electronic communication-related conglomerates, small and mid-sized businesses or middle standing enterprises, foreign enterprises, and national or public research centers. And every year, the number of graduates who go on to graduate schools, or go study abroad has been increasing. As the vigorous research and education activities of our professors have been acknowledged outside the department, they have been awarded many orders related government-sponsored research projects and industrial-academic projects from private sectors, carrying out those assignments vigorously. The academic activity achievement including publishing of SCI class dissertations has been ranked as the top among domestic colleges, so that our department can provide the graduate school with the excellent educational environment. The graduates students in master and doctoral course, who belong to specialized laboratory of each professor, are striving to be a top-level expert in their own field. And after graduation and getting a job, they are doing their best in the relevant field.
The Department of Electronic Convergence Engineering will make best efforts to carry out top-level education and research activities as the leading department in the IT-converged field, so that it may contribute to training of leading professionals and technology development in the electronic engineering-based converged technology field.
