Curriculum of the Department of Electronics Convergence Engineering

The programs of Electronics Convergence Engineering(hereinafter referred to as "Program") will be carried out from March 1st, 2016, according to the standards of engineering accreditation system focused on cyclic and autonomous-type improvement model, which was suggested by the ABEEK.
In order to train professionals who possess the many-sided abilities, the "Program" has set up 13 kinds of learning targets the students shall achieve at the time of graduation, which include the design ability that utilizes basic knowledge, practical job skills, knowledge related to the current technical level, teamwork participation and communication ability, and so on. The educational contents and objectives of each subject focus on the achievement of the 13 learning targets, and the achievement will be evaluated by using many assessment tools. Especially, the department has built up a flexible education system in which the objectives, learning targets, and the curriculum may be modified periodically, based on the reflection of opinions presented by the members from industries, research centers, graduates and currently enrolled students. In order to ensure smooth operation of the program, the Program Committee, Curriculum Committee, Evaluation Committee, Academic-industrial Advisory Committee, and the Data Processing, Experiment and Practical Training Committee have been established inside the department.

Composition of Curriculum

1) 6 subjects for basic knowledge focused on the qualifications foreign language skill, communication ability, teamwork participation and leadership which engineering students must be equipped with.
2) 12 basic subjects for major, including mathematics, basic science, and electronic data processing
3) The department has provided 30 major-oriented subjects. The special feature of curriculum composition is that the curriculum is focused on enhancement of design ability. From the introduction of engineering design in the first year to the Capstone Design 1 and 2 in the 4th year, the students are encouraged to earn 27 credits in total as the portion of design in experimental and theoretical subjects has been increased other than the design-oriented subjects.

Information about subjects to be completed and credits

(1) Graduation Requirements for the Bachelor's Degree
- It is required to earn more than 140 credits, including 30 credits liberal arts(including required subjects), and 45 credits in major subjects(including required major subjects).
- Required for Liberal Arts: Reading and writing of English, English conversation, College Mathematics and Exercise 1 College Mathematics and Exercise 2, Introduction of Engineering Design
- Required for Major : Basic Electronic circuit Lab 1 & 2, Microelectronic Circuits Lab 1 & 2
- The graduation requirement concerning English Language complies with the certification standards of the College of Electronics and Information Engineering.

(2) Engineering Accreditation Requirements for Electronic Convergence Engineering Programs
In order to obtain the engineering accreditation for Electronic Convergence Engineering Programs, the students shall acquire the certification of major course and English simultaneously. In order to get the major course completion certification, the students must obtain 108 credits marked as RC(Required for Certification) in the curriculum, which include Basic Knowledge(18), Basic Science(30), Major Theory and Design(36). And more than 33 credits from other subjects marked as EC(Elective for Certification), including the subjects established by other departments, shall be added to the number of credits in order to get 140 credits in total, which meets the graduationrequirement. However, the number of credits in design subjects among major course shall be over 18.

Industrial Track Agreement with Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd

(1)The main contents of the 2nd Samsung Electronics-related Major Track are as follows.
- One hundred million won of operating expenses will be paid every year.
- 13 subjects related to Track Completion(10 core subjects + 3 elective subjects) will be designated, and the core and elective subjects are as follows.

- The cut line of SSAT will be separately applied to the students who is taking (will take ) Track.
- A maximum of 5 students can be recommended as scholarship holders of Samsung Electronics-related Major Track by our department
(3rd grader; To the excellent students among the students who have taken the internship during winter vacation.)
(4th grader; A student taking Track Course will be paid 10 million won of scholarship during the year of enrollment)
- The scholarship holders based on Samsung Electronics-related Major Track have no advantage in entering a graduate course.
* When going on to a graduate school, the scholarship shall be refunded(principal only, excluding interests). It can be resumed after graduation for the graduate school.

(2) The internal regulations concerning Samsung Electronics-related Major Track completion are as follows.
Article 1 [Purpose]
¨ç This internal regulation is aimed at regulating the matters related to the operation of Samsung Electronics-related Track Programs, which is based on the agreement between Kwangwoon University and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.(hereinafter referred to as Samsung Electronics).

Article 2 [Operation of Samsung Electronics-related Track Programs]
¨ç Based on the agreement with Samsung Electronics, Samsung Electronics-related Track Operating Committee will be organized, which consists of the members from departments operating Samsung Electronics-related Track Programs.
¨è In principle, the ex officio chairman is the dean of the college the relevant departments belong to, and the members of the committee consist of department heads. In case a head of department cannot join the committee as a member, other professor in the department may replace.
¨é In order to ensure smooth operation of the programs, the committee may appoint one assistant administrator and a supplementary member for administration.
¨ê The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering shall establish and operate Samsung Electronics-related Track Programs,

Article 3 [Completion Requirements of Samsung Electronics-related Track Programs in the Department of Electronics Convergence Engineering]
¨ç The completion requirements of Samsung Electronics-related Track Programs are following items.
- In order to complete Samsung Electronics-related Track Programs, the basis weight average score of the 10 core subjects and 3 elective subjects presented in [Annexed Table 1] shall be higher than 3.5(perfect score is 4.5). The basis weight average is calculated by dividing the aggregate, which is obtained by multiplying the sum of credits of each subject and the average score of all subjects, by the total of credits obtained by adding the credits of each subject together.

Article 4 [Internal Regulations of registration for courses]
¨ç In order to get the completion certification of Samsung Electronics-related Track Programs, the students shall complete the 10 core and 3 elective subjects established by the department

Article 5 [Certification Method of Samsung Electronics-related Track Program Completion]
¨ç The completion certificate will be issued to a student who has submitted the annexed application form of Samsung Electronics-related Track Program within the time limit for application, along with the transcripts, after verification.
¨è The members of Samsung Electronics-related Track Operating Committee will decide whether the student has completed the program or not. Only the student, who has no problem concerning the completion according to the verification, may submit the above mentioned application and transcript to the operating committee, so that the operating committee will confirm the certification after verification, if there is no further problem.
¨é The chairman of operating committee will issue the completion certificate of Samsung Electronics-related Track Programs, of which the form is Annex 5, to the student who has acquired the approval of certification based on the completion of Samsung Electronics-related Track Programs in the Department of Electronics Convergence Engineering.

Article 6 [Establishment · Amendment Procedure of Internal Regulations of Samsung Electronics-related Track Program]
The establishment and amendment of Internal Regulations of Samsung Electronics-related Track Program in the Department of Electronics Convergence Engineering complies with the decision of the operating committee. And Internal Regulations will be put into practice after reviewing in the committee and obtaining the approval of the chairman.
- Clause 1 (Enforcement date) This Internal Regulation is put into effect on March 1s, 2011.
- Clause 2 (Transitional provision) This Internal Regulation is put into effect on March 1s, 2011.

Curriculum Information

Subject	Explanation
Basic Electronic Circuit Lab 1	The basic laws and principles of circuit theory, which are the basic course in exploring electronic engineering, are understood through experiments and practices. The main contents of experiment include the DC/AC experiment by using the elements such as resistance, capacitors and inductors, and also the rectifier circuit is experimented, in which diodes are used.
Digital Engineering	The students are taught the number system, binary arithmetic operation, coding, logic theory, all sorts of combinational logic circuit, logic theory of flip-flop order, memory unit, input-output unit, D/A Converter and A/D Converter, digital system, and the structure of micro processor.
Electro Physics 1	In this subject, the students are dealing with all sorts of elements such as electron movement in a vacuum, electric discharge in gases, electrons in solid state substances, electron emission, vacuum tube, photo tube, discharge tube, semiconductor and PN junction, transistor, and integrated circuit.
Electromagnetics 1	The students are taught various basic phenomena of electricity and magnetism, such as vector analysis, electric and magnetic field in a vacuum, boundary condition, electromagnetic induction, and the Maxwell's equations.
Circuit Theory 1	In this subject, the students will grasp the relations between voltage and current, basic principle of circuit, closed circuit and moment equation, Laplace Transform and circuit equation, transient phenomena, impulse response, and the RLC filter theory.
Basic Electronic circuit Lab 2	In this subject, the experiments related to basic logic gates are carried out by using the knowledge about the logic theory, integrated and sequential logic that were taught in the digital logic circuit. And also, the students will be encouraged to understand the performance characteristic of the logic circuit through experiments on Mux/Demux, adder, decoder, counter and register by using the basic logic gates.
Data Structures	This subject focuses on the data structures of software programing, algorithm design techniques, and the programing exercises.
Electro Physics 2	In this subject, students are dealing with all sorts of elements such as electron movement in a vacuum, electric discharge in gases, electrons in solid state substances, electron emission, vacuum tube, photo tube, discharge tube, semiconductor and PN junction, transistor, and integrated circuit.
Electromagnetics 2	The students are taught various basic phenomena of electricity and magnetism. They will be taught the vector analysis, electric and magnetic field in a vacuum, electric and magnetic field in a medium, boundary condition, electromagnetic induction, and the Maxwell's equations.
Circuit Theory 2	This subject covers the voltage and current, basic principle of circuit, closed circuit and moment equation, Laplace Transform and circuit equation, transient phenomena, impulse response, and the RLC filter theory.
Electrical Circuits Lab. 1	In this subject, the basic experiment and measuring instruments related to the structure and design of analog and digital circuit will be introduced. And the students will learn how to use and manipulate the cutting-edge electronic equipment.
Electronic Circuit 1	In this subject, the introduction of diode and transistor circuit, MOSFET, bias stability, small-signal analysis, power amplifier, feedback and oscillator, operating amplifier theory and application, applied circuit of operating amplifier, and the design of passive and active pass filter will be dealt with.
Signals and Systems	In this subject the continuous signal, discrete signal and the system will be defined. And then the features of the system will be analyzed by using a differential equation or difference equation. And the lecture on the Laplace and Z-transform will be delivered in order to analyze the system, along with the lecture on the Fourier series and Fourier transform related to the discrete signal and continuous signal.
Digital Signal Processing	This subject is an introductory course for the digital signal processing. The students will learn about the Fourier analysis and Fourier techniques synthesis in order to process the digital signals in the frequency domain. And they also learn about the z transform, and the analysis and design of digital filter, which are useful tools when designing the filter. Finally, they learn about the basic concepts of audio signal and image processing.
Microwave Engineering	In this subject, the students may understand the characteristics of electromagnetic wave through application of the basic theories of electromagnetics, so that they may deal with the interpretive method for the various structures of transmission line and wave propagation, including other basic problems.
Computer Architecture	In this subject, the students will learn about the structure of computer hardware and be engaged in software design. And the lecture on the structure of arithmetic unit and control unit, memory management, input-output control system, and the lecture about design of basic system program will be given to the students. And they also learn about the knowledge with which they control the system by using a microprocessor. And the lecture deals with the simple applications, such as the numeral system and code, algorithm, central processing unit and peripheral devices, and the micro computer programing techniques.
Electrical Circuits Lab 2	The students learn about the concepts related to AC circuits through practical exercises, including the basic amplifier circuit and the application of operating amplifier in electronic circuits.
Data Communications	This lecture focuses on the basic theories and protocols for data communication. The major topics include the transmission media and signals, coding, modulation and demodulation, multiplexing technologies, error detection and correction technologies, multiple access techniques and the relevant protocols.
Electronic Circuit 2	The students learn about the basic principles that comprise the linear amplifier, compensating circuit, operating amplifier, regulator, and the oscillator. And then they cultivate the application abilities needed for analog computer functions and interfacing.
Mobile Communication Networks	This lecture deals with the basic theories and protocols related to wire/wireless and mobile communication networks. The lecture focuses on the protocols for TCP/UDP and IP, including the wireless network protocols such as wireless LAN/PAN, Mobile IP, wireless TCP, and the Ad hoc network.
Microwave Applications	In this subject, the students may understand the characteristics of electromagnetic wave through application of the basic theories of electromagnetics, so that they may deal with the interpretive method for the various structures of transmission line and wave propagation, including other basic problems.

Antenna Convergence System	This lecture introduces the basic principles related to the antenna theory, and focuses on cultivating the ability to analyze, design and measure the functions, after applying those principles to various types of actual antennas.
Wireless Communications System	This lecture focuses on understanding and application of the electromagnetic properties and the operation principles of elements in passive circuits, which comprise the mobile communication system. Accordingly, the lecture deals with basic mathematics that helps interpret the electromagnetic phenomena. And the students need to understand the operation principles of various circuits super-high frequency domain on the basis of electromagnetics, including the circuit analysis, design, and application based on the circuit theory.
Digital Communications	The students learn the digital signal transmission principles in basebands, including the techniques to design an optimal receiver. Based on what they have learned, the students will learn various digital modulation and demodulation methods, including the verification by using the simulation techniques.
Capstone Design 1	Based on the combination of all major and non-major knowledge and creative thinking acquired during the undergraduate course, the students will carry out exercises of full course from designing to fabrication of engineering products. And also they will experience the problem solutions through carrying out teamwork projects.
Communication Theory	This subject deals with the basic communication theories, including the analysis of signals, linear systems, spectrums and random processes. And the lecture consists of the analyses on theories and systems of actual communication methods such as AM, FM and PM, including the theoretical analysis and applicable methods for the PCM, multiplex and data communication system.
VLSI Design	In this subject, the students will learn about the basic theories for the CMOS VLSI design. The lecture deals with the history of IC, CMOS process outline, CMOS invertor design, and the design and methods of static and dynamic CMOS logic circuit. And also the students will obtain design experiences by implementing the IC design assignments based on the actual CMOS process variables.
Intelligence Wireless Communications System	This lecture of wireless communication system focuses on understanding and application of the electromagnetic properties of active circuits and operation principles of the elements which comprise mobile communication systems. Accordingly, the lecture deals with basic mathematics that helps interpret the electromagnetic phenomena. And the students need to understand the operation principles of various circuits super-high frequency domain on the basis of electromagnetics, including the circuit analysis, design, and application based on the circuit theory.
Multimedia Applications	In this subject, the students learn about the generation and storage of 2D and 3D AV contents, in which the audio and image signal processing techniques are used, and overall concepts of multimedia ranging from the compatibility between heterogeneous devices at the side of transmission and reception to the multimedia network and multimedia supplement, including the learning that focuses on the contents related to multimedia application.
Ubiquitous Communication	Based on the subjects like Random Signal Theory and Communication Theory, which they have already learned, the students will learn about modulation and demodulation, channel modeling, diversity, spread spectrum communication, which are the component technologies for digital communication system.
Mobile Communication Engineering	In this subject, the students carry out studies on cellular system, frequency response in the usable frequency band, station selection and radiation pattern of usable antenna, which are the basic principles of mobile communication, and they also study the future trends of mobile communication.
Electronics Convergence Lab 1	Aiming at the practice-centered creative convergence engineering education, this course focuses on training pragmatic engineers, specialized engineers, and creative engineers. And the lecture deals with such experiments, so that the graduates may easily adapt themselves to on-site practice in the industries. This subject enables the students to carry out modeling and design for mobile and wireless communication elements and systems by using the various commercialized design tools that are currently being used in the industries. And also, they are encouraged to acquire the skills, methods and the ability to use the various cutting-edge measuring instruments, which are needed for engineering convergence.
Electronics Convergence Lab 2	Aiming at the practice-centered creative convergence engineering education, this course focuses on training pragmatic engineers, specialized engineers, and creative engineers. And the lecture deals with such experiments, so that the graduates may easily adapt themselves to on-site practice in the industries. The students learn about the methods in which the contents received through the system modeling of broadcasting¤ýcommunication transmission and reception are applied to the devices by using the various commercialized design tools that are currently being used in the industries. And also, they will acquired the ability to design the applicable integrated circuits for vehicles or medical appliances.
Capstone Design 2	In this subject, the students will acquire the ability to apply the contents, which they learned in Capstone Design 1, to the design of creative engineering products that are pragmatic have industrial values after enriching and developing the contents.
Introduction of Electronics Convergence Engineering	Based on the electronic information communication technology, this lecture focuses on the basic concepts and applicable fields of convergence that is connected with diverse academic and industrial fields. Especially, the students will learn the contents such as the application of electromagnetic field, radar introduction and signal processing, national defense and public safety related to the IT traffic, including the machinery¤ýenergy¤ý environment-related electronic convergence engineering fields.
Advanced Electronics Convergence Engineering	Based on the electronic information communication technology, this lecture focuses on the basic concepts and applicable fields of convergence that is connected with diverse academic and industrial fields. Especially, the students learn about the contents of electronic convergence engineering fields that are related to the broadcasting¤ýcommunication, sensor, system, and the mobile¡¤cloud computing.
